Comparison of 16 termite and ant species found the ants-walking signals were up to 100 times higher than those of termites. We found the termite Coptotermes acinaciformis detected their major predator, the ant Iridomyrmex purpureus, through thin wood using only vibrational cues from walking, and not chemical signals. We observed termites foraging within millimetres of ants in the field, suggesting the evolution of specialised detection behaviours. Termites communicate mostly by way of substrate-borne vibrations, which suggest they may be able to eavesdrop, using two possible mechanisms: ant chemicals or ant vibrations. Communication signals of social species may be particularly vulnerable to eavesdropping, such as pheromones produced by ants, which are predators of termites. Thank you!įor the last 2 years, over 10 million players have had some questions: Why are we so tiny? How did we wind up in this backyard? Who did this to us? Could they possibly add another spider to the game? The time to uncover those answers is now with the 1.0.Eavesdropping has evolved in many predator–prey relationships. This also doesn't contain everything that we plan on doing, so please continue to provide your feedback to shape Grounded into the best possible game it can be. Details on certain features may remain vague until we are more confident in the idea, and we want to keep a few things secret to keep your experience exciting and unexpected. Nothing is set in stone and features could be moved up, pushed back, or unfortunately removed. As a caveat, we are still in active development, and this board is subject to change based on your feedback, the state of development, what's best for the game, the unknown, and our future plans. This feature board includes high-level details on plans for Grounded, and we would like to update it as we progress each month. Welcome to the Grounded Feature Board! Our goal from the start was to include the community in the development in Grounded, and with that, we want to be as transparent as possible with features we plan to work on.
